The National Organisation
for Medicines (EOF), established in 1983 and accountable to the Ministry
of Health and Welfare, is the regulatory body for authorising and
monitoring clinical trials conducted in Greece. Clinical trials must
comply with national regulations, EU Guidelines and the Declaration
of Helsinki.
The Scientific and Ethics Committee ensures the protection of the
rights, safety and health of people participating in clinical trials.
Health
Care System |
The Greek National
Health System was introduced in 1983. A reform in 2001 altered
the organisational structure considerably, establishing decentralised
Regional Health Authorities and new managerial structures in
public hospitals. Further reforms include the introduction of
family doctors.
The health care system is a mixed system, financed by a mixture of social insurance and general taxation, with public and private promoters. Health care services are provided mainly by public hospitals and private care centres operating within the National Health System, by health units belonging to Insurance Funds, and by the private sector.
